NatWest Island Games become Royal

Tue, 28 Jun 2011

Wednesday 29th June. Yesterday the Annual General Meeting of the Association approved a proposal from the Executive Committee to replace the present bidding system for Hosting the Games with a negotiation/allocation system.  The final decision will be taken at the AGM in Bermuda next year.

The results of the elections for the Executive Committee were as follows:

Chairman Jorgen Pettersson; Vice Chairman James Johnston were re-elected unopposed; the current Treasurer Eric Legg, (Guernsey) Treasuer since 2001, retired and was replaced by Bob McGinnigle (Jersey).  Executive Committee Members Anu Vares (Saaremaa) and Andy Varnom  (Isle of Man) were re-elected and will be joined by new Member Solvi Reinert Hansen (Faroe Islands).  Eric was voted an Honorary Life Member and as such will keep in contact with his many friends in the Association.

Today Prince Edward, Duke of Wessex will visit the Isle of Wight. During his visit Chairman of the NatWest Island Games XIV 2011 Organising Committee David Ball and yours truly will accompany him on a tour of some of the sporting venues.

We have also had a visit from European Football Weekends and the Ball is Round.  They saw 4 matches on the opening day of the NatWest Island Games and you can see their reports and photos here:
