46 Games Records tumble in Jersey

During the 2015 NatWest Island Games in Jersey 46 Games Records were broken involving ten of the IIGA Member Islands. This is very impressive for the four sports involved: Archery, Athletics, Shooting and Swimming.

The Host Island, Jersey, broke the most records with 14, followed by the Isle of Man with 11. The Faroe Islands broke 9 records in their traditionally strong sports, Archery and Swimming.

The other Islands with record breakers are the Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Isle of Wight, Menorca, Rhodes, Shetland Islands and the Western Isles.

The record breakers included a number of international competitors and even some Olympians. In the pool Charlotte Atkinson, Isle of Man, topped the list with five records, followed by Ian Black, Jersey, with four and Pal Joensen, Faroe Islands, with three. On the Archery range, Jogvan Niclasen from the Faroe Islands broke four records and Lucy O’Sullivan from Jersey, three.

One of the record breakers, Catherine Reid from the Isle of Man, competed in the World Youth Athletics Championships in Columbia just two weeks after Jersey 2015 and won a bronze medal in the 400 metres.

There was a lot of sympathy at the Athletics Stadium for Ronald Forbes (Cayman Islands). In the 110m hurdles he ran a time of 13.62 seconds but unfortunately the wind was marginally not legal for the Games Record (+2.3). However there was consolation for Ronald when just one week after the Games (5 July 2015) Ronald set a new national record of 13.47 in Switzerland and in doing so qualified for the IAAF World Championships.

It is possible that more records were broken as the IIGA Office is still waiting for some of the shooting results to be verified as potential records. If this happens they will be included on the IIGA website:
