ONE OF THE TOP TEN EVENTS IN 2015

Thu, 15 Jan 2015

Happy New Year and good luck with your final preparations for the NatWest Island Games in Jersey.  We are most likely to see the largest number of competitors taking part since the Games began in the Isle of Man in 1985. That is both a challenge and an opportunity. It appears that our Games will reach a larger audience than ever before with interest from the media already gathering pace. Jersey is to be congratulated for the attention the Games has attracted not only among our member islands but also from further afield. The British newspaper The Independent, which has a circulation of over 100,000, has included the NatWest Island Games in the top ten events to look forward to in 2015 alongside the Cricket World Cup, the Women’s World Cup in Football, the World Athletics Championships  and the Rugby World Cup. Read the article here. (http://i100.independent.co.uk/article/10-sporting-events-to-look-forward-to-next-year--ey7TR9tAKl) We are honoured to be included in this company and will of course do our utmost to deliver not only the largest NatWest Island Games ever but also the best.

In Football we will see 16 men’s teams and 11 women’s teams competing in what will be the  largest football tournament so far in the history of the NatWest Island Games. Read more in the recent coverage from the BBC here. (http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/30724591
