It is with regret that we heard the news that Rebecca "Becky" Fortunato passed away on 21st April at the age of 56 after a long illness.

Becky attended her first Island Games in Aland 1991 as Assistant Coach to the Gilbraltar Swim Team and has attended every Games since.  She later became a Member of the Gibraltar Island Games Association and the Organising Committee of the 'Sunshine Games' held in Gibraltar in 1995.

She was a Member of the Gibraltar Commonwealth Games Committee and elected as Vice President in 2002 and led Gibraltar to the Melbourne Games in 2006.

Becky was awarded the MBE for services to sport in Her Majesty the Queen's New Years Honours in 2009.

She will be sorely missed but her legacy will continue through her children Craig, Becca, Wayne and Rachel.

IIGA Chairman Jorgen Pettersson said 'Rebecca Fortunato was one of the people upon whom the entire International Island Games Association relies.  Becky has, since her first involvement in 1991, been a good friend to many of the competitors and administrators.  Her personality and enthusiasm may no longer be a part of future Games but her legacy will.  Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones.  Becky will be deeply missed by all of us who knew and worked with her.  The best way for us all to honour her is to continue her work to make the Games a great event where competitors can meet and compete.'
