Chairman of the Bermuda 2013 Island Games Organizing Committee

The Bermuda Island Games Association is very pleased to announce that Mr. Garry Madeiros has accepted the Chairmanship role of the Bermuda 2013 Island Games Organizing Committee.

Garry A. Madeiros, JP,FCA is the retired (2007) President & Chief Executive Officer of BELCO Holdings Limited, Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited and Bermuda Gas & Utility Limited. He had worked at BELCO for twenty-two years and the last 14 years as President & CEO.

Mr. Madeiros has served on a large number of corporate, community and Government boards. For example he has been Chairman of Council Partners Charitable Trust, Chairman of the Finance Council for the Catholic Diocese, Chairman of the Board of Governors of Cedarbridge Academy and Mount Saint Agnes Academy(MSA), Chairman of the MSA $5,000,000 Capital Campaign, President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bermuda, Chairman of Employees Assistance Program, President of the Bermuda Employers Council, Chairman of the Hotel Pension Plan, Director of the National Board of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and Director of BELCO Holdings Limited.

Presently he is:

  • Chairman of the Board of Governors for MSA, Chairman of the Defense & Promotions Board for the Bermuda Regiment, Director of the Mid Ocean Club and member of the Executive Committee of Bermuda 2009. 
  • Director of BF&M Limited, a holding Company for companies involved in general insurance, life insurance, retirement products and property development and Chairman of BF&M Life Insurance Company Limited. 
  • Director of Utilico Emerging Markets Limited, an exempted close-ended Bermuda Investment Company that invests predominantly in infrastructure, utility and related companies in Emerging Markets.

He has been married to Julie for 37 years and they have two daughters and three grandchildren.
The Island Games will be held July 13th to 19th, 2013 in Bermuda and will involve over 2,000 athletes and officials competing in 14 sports. The Games gives Bermuda a unique opportunity to showcase our sporting talent, and to introduce visitors to our beautiful island. Organizing the Games is a mammoth task and the Bermuda Island Games Association is therefore delighted to have the vast experience of Mr. Madeiros to head up the Organizing Committee.
